Cochise College Early College

Cochise College Early College We specialize in high schoolers taking college classes as well as youth programs through the college. Most camps have a 7-to-1 ratio of adults to children.

During June & July, we offer week-long summer camps for kids in grades 4-12. Fun, hands-on activities with instructors and/or professionals from the community. We provide all materials needed for the class. We ask that kids bring a snack and a water bottle each day. Some camps will showcase their completed activities/performances.

Are you in your final class for a Cochise College certificate? You can apply for graduation now! There's no need to wait until you finish your class.

To receive your Cochise College certificate, you must submit a graduation application.

Ready to apply?
✔Visit our Graduation page at cochise.edu/student-resources/academic-advising/graduation
✔Your certificate will be mailed to your address 8–12 weeks after you complete your final class.

COLLEGE READY? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

College classes require a time commitment. Before adding a college class to your schedule, think about how it will fit with high school, sports, a job, clubs, family responsibilities, and other activities.

READY SKILL: TIME & STRESS MANAGEMENT

College classes require time outside of class for reading, assignments, studying, and preparing for exams. College courses may also have a higher level of rigor than high school classes.

Attendance is important, too. College classes do not follow your high school’s schedule, so you may have college classes when your high school is on a break.

Ask yourself:
✔Do I have enough time to give my college class the attention it requires?
✔Can I keep track of deadlines and manage my time?
✔What will I do when college work, high school, and other responsibilities become stressful?

COLLEGE READY? LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.

Parents often wonder, “Is my student ready for college?”

Academic readiness is important, but it is only one part of being successful in a college class. Early College is starting a series of posts to explore some of the skills that can help students and parents decide if now is a good time to begin taking college classes.

READY SKILL: COMMUNICATION
College students need to be able to communicate clearly and respectfully with instructors and classmates.

In an in-person class, this may mean participating in discussions, asking questions, working with classmates, and speaking with your instructor when you need help.

Online classes require communication, too. Students may be expected to participate in discussion forums, respond to classmates, send emails, and communicate with their instructor about questions or concerns.

Ask yourself:
Can I communicate respectfully with adults and classmates?
Can I write a clear email or message?
Will I check my college email and respond when needed?

Being college ready isn't about knowing everything. It's about being willing and able to communicate, ask questions, and take responsibility for getting the help you need.

Congratulations to Buena High School senior Eyah on an incredible achievement! Eyah earned first place in our region for the Congressional Art Competition, earning her a four-day trip to Washington, D.C. Her award-winning oil pastel artwork is also displayed in the tunnels connecting the Congressional buildings for one year.

Eyah says one of her favorite things about the piece is the way she captured the lighting. Her passion for art has been growing for years. She began drawing with her mom as a young girl, and her interest really blossomed in fifth grade when she joined the Discovery Program and connected with other young artists.

Today, Eyah is taking Advanced Placement art classes at Buena High School and Design Fundamentals at Cochise College. She shared that one challenge for artists can be comparing their work to others. She has learned to turn that comparison into inspiration by studying other artists’ work and trying new techniques.

After high school, Eyah plans to pursue art in college and is considering a future as a storyboard artist. Whatever path she chooses, we are excited to see where her creativity and talent take her.
