What does college accreditation actually mean?

For Cochise College, it means an ongoing commitment to quality, accountability and continuous improvement.

The Higher Learning Commission has reaffirmed Cochise College’s accreditation, with the next reaffirmation scheduled for the 2035-36 academic year.

Accreditation also matters in practical ways, including access to federal financial aid and when students transfer to other colleges and universities.

It’s more than a stamp of approval. It’s part of the college’s commitment to student success.

At Cochise College, career readiness starts before graduation.

16 Early College high school students completed OSHA-10 training, gaining practical workplace safety knowledge they can carry into their Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs and future careers.

That’s the value of career-connected education: learning that prepares students for what comes next.

Cullen Scarborough, dean of workforce development, reiterated that "Investing in CTE is investing in our community's future. These 16 students are entering the workforce not just with skills, but with the knowledge to protect themselves and their coworkers."

The Sierra Vista Campus hosted 5 students, and the Douglas Campus hosted 11 students.

The OSHA-10 certification is a nationally recognized credential that signals to employers that a worker understands fundamental workplace safety standards. For young students stepping into hands-on CTE environments, whether in construction, healthcare or skilled trades, this training can be the difference between a safe workday and a preventable accident.

It started with blank pages, ideas and a group of creative Douglas students. ✏️🎨

With guidance from local Cochise County artist Lisa Kindle, students in our Early College summer program spent time drawing, creating and learning how their work could become a real published project.

The result is World’s Unseen, a coloring book filled with their artwork and imagination.

Come celebrate what they created and the community collaboration that helped bring it to life!

Meet Cochise College Provost Dr. Sheena Brown.

Dr. Brown brings experience in academic leadership, accreditation, strategic planning and student success to the role. Since joining Cochise College in 2022, she has helped strengthen academic programs and connections between academics and student services.
