After 29 months here.
I let the soil heal itself, with a few nudges. I planted a dwarf fruiting mulberry as the "Tree" and 5 natives as support. But first, lol, I removed the gravel on plastic "low maintenance" yard they had, and brought in all kinds of organic matter that I "borrowed" from the neighborhood--leaves, twigs, stumps, branches, all of that stuff that litters a good forest floor. I composted from our kitchen scraps and used our kitchen gray water for hydration.
I over-wintered some rye, clover, vetch.
Yah...I have the evasive elms and Tree of Heaven...trying to integrate them, use them, without them taking over. They can be composted, at a minimum.
I am going to introduce grapes next, I believe, some native, and some exotics that will give us a better food return. We will see.
Looks nice for "high desert" eh?
