Congratulations, Azaria Meals! She is headed to teach K-12 Art at Kingsley-Pierson!🍎🎨

Azaria's biggest inspiration to pursue education was her grandfather. He was a teacher and principal during his career in education, and would share stories with her that inspired her to follow in his footsteps!

We asked Azaria what her most memorable and impactful moment was during her time at Morningside, and she stated, "Being a mom while also going to school made it hard to make connections on campus, but I will say some of my greatest memories were with the amazing individuals I met within both the art and education programs. I have found not only some of the best friends I have ever had, but also some of my biggest supporters too!"

Azaria's advice to future educators: "My advice for future students in the education program is to do something for yourself everyday. Self care goes a long way no matter how silly it seems. It can even be as small as taking a 10 minute break from the homework, work, or studying. Every moment counts. You’ve got this!"

Congratulations to Lydia Thams! She is headed to teach Elementary Music at Pocahontas Elementary! 🍎🎶

Lydia's senior-year high school choir director helped her get into All-State, where she realized my love for music. It was then that she decided she wanted to pursue music education as a career. Her dad is a teacher as well, and he is also a Morningside Alum!

We asked Lydia what the most memorable or impactful moment was during her time at Morningside, and she stated, "The students at my elementary student-teaching placement will always hold a special place in my heart. They were the students who helped me realize that elementary, specifically, was my passion. When I visited for their spring concert as an audience member after not having seen them for over a month, I walked into the gymnasium and was immediately hit with a mob of at elementary students in a giant group hug, while they were all excitedly yelling “Miss Thams!!! We missed you!!” It caused a whole scene in front of all of their parents and grandparents, and I started happy-crying because I missed all of those students so much. It is a moment I will never forget, because I realized: if I can make such an impact on those students in just a few weeks, I can’t wait to see what a whole career will bring!"

Lydia's advice to future educators: "Get all of the experience you can and don’t be afraid to fail! Jump right in, even if you don’t feel quite ready yet. Your advisors, cooperating teachers, and peers are there to help you try new things and celebrate the wins!"

It’s celebration week for the 2026 NetVUE Grants to Individuals for Vocational Exploration recipients. This year, seven scholars proposed projects that bring vocation into field research, environmental philosophy, STEM, adaptive recreation partnerships, and experiential learning to help students connect their work to larger questions of purpose, responsibility, and service.

Congratulations to Victoria Asmus, who is headed to teach 6th grade at South Central Calhoun! 🍎✏

We asked Victoria what inspired her to pursue education, and she stated: "I've always wanted to make a positive difference in children's lives. Seeing how much support, encouragement, and guidance can impact a child's future inspired me to pursue education. I enjoy helping young people learn, grow in confidence, and reach their full potential, and I believe education is one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to their success."

When asked what her most memorable or impactful moment was during her time at Morningside, she stated: "One of the most impactful moments in my education program has been the opportunity to collaborate with my professors, classmates, and mentors. Working alongside people with different experiences and perspectives has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Their guidance, support, and shared knowledge have strengthened my understanding of education and inspired me to become a more effective educator."

Victoria's advice to future educators: "Never be afraid to try something new because you might just find out you love it!"

Congratulations, Victoria! We can't wait to see all that you accomplish in your own classroom this fall! 🌟

Larisa King is headed to teach 3rd grade at Morningside Elementary! 🍎✏
Larisa pursed education because she learned about the gaps in our education system and knows that she can be the person to help close those gaps for every student who comes into her classroom.

We asked her what her most impactful moment was at the Sharon Walker School of Education, and she said: "The guidance provided to me by all of my phenomenal professors who helped me become the educator I am today."

A word of advice to future educators from Larisa: "There is still autonomy in teaching! Lesson plans and scripted curriculum do not take the place of your true teaching. You can still be the teacher you want to be while following the directions of your district!"

Congratulations to Marco Alvarado, who will be starting his teaching career at Lewis and Clark Middle School in Omaha as a 6th Grade History/Science teacher! He also plans to earn his Masters Degree in Sports Administration! 🍎✏

Marco's Why: To be a symbol that when life does get hard, to not let it beat you down, and hold on to your potential to pursue the best version of yourself.

We asked Marco what his most memorable moments were at the Sharon Walker School of Education, and he said, "Outside of student teaching, definitely just lessons, obstacles, and the laughs along the way from freshman year to now with the same people all 4 years." 📚

His advice to future educators: "Education is not a straight line. Don't focus so much on "Will this guarantee success". Allow yourself to grow, ask questions to develop your own teaching because your skills will change over time. You don't need to have everything figured out from the start. Believe in yourself even when everything goes wrong."

Hannah Nichols is off to teach K-8 Art at McCook Public Schools this fall! She was inspired to become a teacher to help young people grow to build a better future. 🍎✏

Her favorite part about being in the Sharon Walker School of Education was building relationships with all of her professors!🎓

Advice that Hannah would give to future educators: "Never be afraid to fail because as educators we are the examples for the younger generation, so they know it’s ok to fail as long as you get back up."

Congratulations to recent grad, Maddy Powers, who will be starting her teaching career teaching 3rd Grade at Holy Cross Blessed Sacrament! 🍎✏

She was inspired to become an educator through her family that is full of teachers!

A piece of advice that Maddy wanted to share to future educators, "There is always a reason for everything you do. It is all about perspective!"

Kennedy Wineland is headed to Savannah, Georgia to teach 6th grade math at Richmond Middle School! Congratulations to Kennedy on this exciting new position and move! 🍎✏ Kennedy hopes to stay in the south for a few years and coach high school softball and volleyball as well! 🥎🏐

Kennedy was inspired to become an educator through both of her grandparents who were both secondary educators, and she is excited to follow in their footsteps. Her favorite memories include her student teaching placement in 6th grade at West Middle school and teaching at North Middle as a semester hire after graduating in December of 2025.

Congratulations, Kennedy! We are so of you! 🌟
