University of South Dakota Biomedical Engineering: Society for Biomaterials

University of South Dakota Biomedical Engineering: Society for Biomaterials A multidisciplinary society of academic, healthcare, government and professionals dedicated to advancement of biomaterial sciences. The objective of the M.S.

USD Biomedical engineering (BME) focuses on the application of engineering and science methodologies to the analysis of biological and physiological problems and to the development and delivery of health-care technologies. The biomedical engineer serves as an interface between traditional engineering disciplines and living systems and may work in either direction, applying the patterns of living o

rganisms to engineering design or engineering new approaches to human health. Both the Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees are cross-disciplinary degrees. program is to prepare a student for research and development careers in biomedical industry and for additional training at the doctoral level. The Ph.D. program will prepare a student for a career as a researcher who advances the frontiers of biomedical science and engineering with attention to generating new ideas for commercialization. We work at the interface of engineering and medicine to develop solutions for medical problems. Our students are prepared to be leaders in academia and industry. Their education reflects the interdisciplinary nature of biomedical engineering and includes coursework in biomaterials, physiology, and experimental design. Research training emphasizes engineering biomaterials that can repair or replace damaged tissues and treat critical diseases. We have state-of-the-art research instrumentation and are creating the Aseptic Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Production & Training Center that will enable students, along with their faculty advisors, to translate their research from the bench to the bedside.
