Congratulations to Music Education Major, Tilly McLaughlin, who has been selected as a social media intern for the 2026 PMEA Annual In‑Service Conference! 🎉

🎶 This year’s conference will take place April 22–25 at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in the Poconos, bringing together music educators, performers, and future teachers from across Pennsylvania. Tilly will be right in the center of it all — helping capture the sessions, supporting presenters, and gaining hands‑on experience through social media with the people shaping music education in our state! 🎶

Tilly serves as the Historian for the SRU PCMEA Chapter, as well as the Assistant Social Media Director for the SRU Marching Pride. We are so happy for her to bring her skillsets to the PMEA Conference, boosting the brand that is known at the state level of the PMEA organization! 📸

🎵 There ain’t no stopping SRU PCMEA 🕺

While we are preparing to travel to PMEA All State Conference in just one week’s time, we are also planning for the future! At our last meeting, we elected our Executive Board for the 2026-2027 school year! 🎊

💚 Thank you to our current Executive Board for all they have done this year in the planning of meetings, events, coordinating of guest speakers, fundraisers, and more! We cannot thank you enough for all you’ve done and cannot wait to see how this organization flourishes under new leadership! 🤍

🎉 Every month we will be highlighting our Music Education students for their accomplishments throughout and outside of SRU 💚🤍

🎵 Meet Ian Squyres! Ian is a Sophomore Music Education and Performance Major with a concentration in saxophone 🎷

🎶 Ian was recently accepted into the Saxophone Lab at the National Music Festival taking place at the end of May in Chestertown, MD! Through this experience, he will have the opportunity to study with internationally acclaimed performers while also networking with other accomplished musicians. The Saxophone Lab provides students with the opportunities to not only grow as musicians and performers, but as professionals in the field of music! 🎶

Congratulations to Ethan and Keira (our very own PCMEA President!)

Slippery Rock University is proud to announce that Keira Mayhue and Ethan Aeschbacher have been selected as Collegiate Ambassadors for the 2026 Modern Band Summit, a prestigious national gathering of music educators and students hosted by Music Will.

As Collegiate Ambassadors, these SRU students will attend the summit this July at Colorado State University, where they will engage in professional development, collaborate with peers and educators nationwide, and support summit programming. The experience includes specialized training in modern band approaches, which emphasize student-centered learning, popular music, and culturally responsive teaching.

🎼 This past week our chapter was fortunate enough to welcome back a few SRU Music Education alumni to talk about their first year teaching with our current members! We were joined by alumni both in person and via zoom, and it was great to connect with them and hear some advice as our students prepare to enter the field within the next few years! 🎶📚
