Last week, JCC Jaguar Stephanie Pano took the stage at the North Carolina Community Colleges Biennial Conference to address an audience of 2,000 people.

As president of N4CSGA and a student working toward three degrees at JCC, Stephanie is a powerful example of student leadership in action.

Her message about the importance of the student voice in our community college system was moving, and we couldn’t be prouder to see her representing JCC and the students whose voices she champions.

Stephanie and the students she represents are at the heart of everything we do. They are our WHY. 💙

Our Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration brought together vibrant cultures, incredible performances, delicious food, and so much more!

From traditional dancing and a fashion show showcasing styles inspired by more than a dozen countries to music, food, and festivities, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the traditions and contributions of Hispanic cultures.

We are pleased to announce that Novo Nordisk has secured a $1.15 million NCEdge Customized Training Project in partnership with Johnston Community College.

This investment represents a significant commitment to workforce development, skills training, and strengthening North Carolina’s talent pipeline.

The North Carolina Community Colleges NCEdge program helps businesses across our state develop tailored upskilling and reskilling, helping employees master new technologies and boost productivity.

Partnerships like this are a wonderful example of how customized training can strengthen our workforce, support industry, and make a meaningful impact in our local community.

We are excited to continue working with Novo on this project over the next few years.

From the Academy to the Firehouse JCC Fire Academy Class 14 recently spent a day with North Side Fire & Rescue , Cleveland Fire Department NC and 50-210 Fire Department, giving our cadets the opportunity to step away from the classroom and experience what life is really like in a fire station.

Our cadets tagged along with firefighters on shift and took part in the day-to-day responsibilities of the station from checking equipment and completing station duties to training alongside the crews. Cadets also got hands-on experience with several fireground operations, including hose lays, forcible entry, and search and rescue. These opportunities allow our cadets to take what they are learning in the academy and put it into practice alongside firefighters who are doing the job every day. And after all the training was finished, the cadets were given their toughest assignment of the day: figuring out what was for lunch and cooking it! Judging by the lack of complaints from the crews, we’d say they did alright!

A huge THANK YOU to North Side Fire & Rescue, Cleveland Fire Department, and 50-210 Fire Department for opening your stations to our cadets and allowing them to experience life in the fire service. These local partnerships are a big part of preparing the next generation of firefighters, and we appreciate the time, knowledge, and experience our local departments continue to share with JCC Fire Academy.

Could you be the next one? Class 15 is coming up January 4, 2027.
