New Mexico Tech has been awarded $3.3M from the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s Grid Modernization Program to build a smart microgrid demonstration and training platform.

Led by Dr. Qingsong Cui in the Department of Electrical Engineering, the project brings together advanced sensing, AI, and power systems in order to strengthen grid resilience. It is supported by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and two New Mexico Tech research centers: the Petroleum Recovery Research Center (PRRC) and the Institute for Complex Additive Systems Analysis (ICASA). It will be based at the Playas Research and Training Center.

Students, professionals, and partners will be able to get hands-on experience with modern grid technology.

Meet the Studio G Champion from New Mexico Tech, Dr. Haoying Wang!

Dr. Wang is the chair for the Engineering Management program at New Mexico Tech, where his research focuses on the intersection of bioeconomy and agriculture. When he’s not teaching, managing programs, or researching, he likes to hike, work on cars, and spend time with his wife Lucy.

We’re thrilled to have Dr. Wang as part of the Studio G network and grateful for all that he does for the central New Mexico region.

Nearly 400 Tech supporters and golfers of all stripes teed off on the New Mexico Tech golf course to raise funds for students.

The 33rd Annual Daniel H. López President’s Golf Tournament held last week was a true success! About $300,000 was raised in cash and in-kind donations to support our students.

The weather (mostly) cooperated and helped us welcome the golfers for two fantastic days of golf, connection, and New Mexico Tech spirit. Among them were Lt.Gov.HowieMorales and State Senator Benny Shendo, Jr. President Michael Jackson joined the action as the “5th player” on Hole 17.

More than 80 student volunteers and 25 NMT staff members stepped up to help make sure everything went off without a hitch. Students also had the opportunity to showcase some of the amazing things happening at New Mexico Tech, including drone demonstrations, the Lunabotics program, and more — giving our guests a firsthand look at the innovation and talent that make NMT so special.

Thanks to everyone who made this year’s tournament a success!

Last yearbook or not? Techies, tell us! 💙⬇️

A small group of impressive New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology alumni recently gathered in Midland, Texas for dinner and reminiscing. George McAlpine, BS 1981 (New Mexico Tech Petroleum Engineering Department) brought his 1981 "Porphyry," which he believes was the last yearbook published. George, a Production Engineer at Sahara Operating Company, currently operates hundreds of wells throughout the Permian Basin.
