We deeply mourn the loss of Charlie Alberto. He was an extremely generous person who made a difference in the life of many of our students and, more in general, of the Italian Studies Institute. He will be remembered for his legacy as a benefactor but also, and especially, for the truly nice person that he was.

A namesake of the Charles and Joan Alberto Italian Studies Institute, Charles Alberto was a recipient of the Many Are One Alumni Service Award and an inductee of the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.

Some highlights from the wonderful conference on Philip Roth, Ralph Ellison and Pietro Di Donato. It was amazing to hear them speak on tape from a 1962 Symposium on issues still so relevant today. Should a writer be constrained by his minority community? Does literature require allegiance? Thank you to William Connell for bringing these tapes back to life and bringing such distinguished scholars together to discuss it. Hopefully a recording of the event will be soon available.

A late posting (sorry!) for last Monday’s concert version on campus of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Many thanks to Jason Tramm (conductor) and Andrea Del Giudice (artistic director) for putting together this thought-provoking and beautiful production.
