Environmental Law Center at Vermont Law

Environmental Law Center at Vermont Law Vermont Law and Graduate School has one of the largest environmental programs of any law school, consistently ranked in the top 5 by U.S. News & World Report.

Since we established the Environmental Law Center in 1978, we have been training people to be environmental leaders in government, nonprofits, corporations, and private practice—locally, nationally, and internationally. Within the ELC, you will find focused research institutes, specialized programs, and the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic. We address crucial issues such as sustainab

le development, global warming, environmental and energy law and policy, and environmental taxation. Our clinic participants litigate real-world cases in these fields, and our world-renowned Summer Session provides a unique opportunity for students, faculty, scientists, and policy makers to meet and discuss the latest environmental developments. Everyone who experiences the ELC’s offerings leaves with a heightened sense of civic responsibility and a deeper understanding of the issues. After VLGS, many become leaders who work on behalf of a healthy future for our planet.

Have you heard the news? Abigail Dillen will take the stage on May 16 to deliver this year’s Commencement address.

As the president of Earthjustice and Earthjustice Action, Dillen leads more than 650 staff in using the power of law to protect the environment and people’s health. Her journey is an inspiration for the kind of work many of our graduates will carry forward.

Other honored guests will include Jay Blumenkopf JD’76, a member of the school’s charter class, and Professor David Firestone—both part of the early days of Vermont Law School.
