We're excited to partner again with Religious Studies and Classics for our 3nd Annual SĂ©ance!*

Students: you're invited to join us next Thursday, October 29, at 7 p.m. in the College Common (Humanities 153).

Some of your favorite professors will "channel" some of their favorite historical figures, such as Sappho, Socrates, Ivan the Terrible, Otto von Bismarck, Mikhail Gorbachev, and (fingers crossed) Tammy Faye Baker!

Dr. Ann Ostendorf’s new book is out!

Her co-edited collection, The Romani Atlantic, is available from Cambridge University Press and via open access. The book is the first comprehensive look at Romani experiences in the Atlantic World.

Dr. Ostendorf co-wrote the introduction, "Five Hundred Years of Romani Atlantic History: Flows, Circulations and Migrations that Made the Modern World.” She also contributed a chapter titled "Familiar Outsiders Abroad: Relational Racialization in the Romani Atlantic World.”

We're excited to share some info about our next event!

Professors Rast, Schlimgen, and Donnelly will offer presentations on how Americans observed U.S. anniversaries in 1876, 1926, and 1976. Then faculty colleagues with expertise in climate change, politics and social media, law and social justice, bioengineering, and AI will discuss opportunities and challenges we face as we start on the path from 2026 to 2076.

Skyler Reep, President and General Manager of KSPS PBS, will moderate the discussion, and KSPS will livestream the event.

The semester is well underway, but History major Connor Davis made some great memories this summer! He earned course credit for working with Professor Nora Donoghue at the Poggio Civitate Archaeological Field School () in Tuscany, Italy.

Here Connor is working on a fragment of red deer antler he discovered near a 6th-century BCE defensive work. Professor Donoghue notes that the piece is particularly exciting because it preserves clear evidence of cut marks.
