HPHY Student-Athlete Spotlight: Anika Jones
Meet one of our HPHY cross country runners. Swipe to see cross country’s 2026 schedule. Let’s get out and support our HPHY community.

Read more below about how being and HPHY major changed the way Anika thought about her own training and recovery.

Anika: “Being an HPHY major has played a big role in my journey as an athlete at Gonzaga. Courses like Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics have given me insight into how to train and recover more effectively than I used to. For instance, ever since learning that our skeletal muscle elevates glucoses uptake during and after training, I always make sure to consume carbs immediately after finishing a difficult workout. Plus, the benefits go both ways - I usually have an easier time remembering content from class if I apply it to my real life as an athlete.”

Students explored anatomy through pig heart and kidney dissections, learned how ultrasound is used to visualize the human body, and toured our teaching and research labs. Thank you to everyone who joined us—we hope to see you on campus again soon!
