Meet Maria, a Public Relations student completing an internship with Bauman Counselling LLC, where she does content creation, social media management, searches for speaking opportunities, builds brand awareness, and assists with blog posts. When asked what her favorite part about completing this internship is, she said "Since this is a learning experience, it feels like I get the best of both worlds. Since it is a lot of time and hard work it feels beneficial to use this towards college credit. I am gaining hands-on experience while learning new things."

Majors and minors in the CMJF department can earn elective credit hours toward their degree with media internships (MED 595), journalism internships (JRN 595), and communication studies, strategic communication, and socio-political communication internships (COM 495).

Gaining professional experience is one of the best ways students can prepare themselves for the workforce. Media, journalism, and communication are everywhere. Fortunately, so are internships!

Want to learn more? Email COM internship coordinator Jerri Lynn Kyle, [email protected], to connect with the course director for your major and to learn how to begin the internship search.

For this week's "Lens on Alumni" spotlight, we have Brett Jones!

Brett currently works at Washington University at the Brown School as an administrative assistant, where he works in the Dean's office and has learned a lot about the behind the scenes world of university operations.

Brett is still actively writing and is also currently in post-production for his feature film! The film will be premiering early next year right here in Springfield; so, keep an eye out for that!
