After a busy few days at the ISTTE Conference in the Netherlands, Dr. Wolfe and Penelope were ready to head back to the US. But apparently, the travel fairies had other plans! 🍍

An unexpected flight delay meant an extra day in Amsterdam, and they made the most of it with a little sightseeing.

Not a bad way to wrap up an international trip! 🌍

This week, our students joined Dr. Kageyama and Dr. Liang at the 2026 Governor’s Conference on Tourism, right here in Springfield!

Throughout the conference, students attended keynote sessions, made new connections, and got a closer look at the people and organizations helping Missouri's tourism industry thrive.

The experience also included an evening awards banquet, where students had the chance to meet Missouri State Representative Brian Seitz.

Even Penelope Pineapple joined in on the fun, making an appearance at the keynote session! 🍍🐻

One menu is wrapping up, and another is getting ready to take the stage at Carrie's Cafe! 🍽️🐻

🌍✈️ Hospitality Leadership goes international!

Dr. Wolfe is representing MSU at the 45th Annual International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators (ISTTE) Conference in Breda, Netherlands!

Hosted by Breda University of Applied Sciences, this year's conference focuses on "Digital, Responsible, Resilient: Evolving Skills in Tourism Education and Research," bringing together educators from around the world to share ideas, make connections, and explore what's next for tourism and hospitality education.

Of course, no international trip is complete without a little sightseeing (and good food)! Dr. Wolfe and our traveling pineapple, Penelope, made a stop in Budapest to see the iconic Chain Bridge and Hungarian Parliament Building before making their way to Breda, where Dutch cuisine, including bitterballen, was first on the menu! 🍍

From exploring hospitality and sustainable tourism in Taiwan to discovering the stories behind Ireland's agricultural heritage, our students have some exciting opportunities to take their education beyond the classroom.

🐻 Internship Spotlight: Meet Kahler!

Kahler, is junior in our Hospitality Management program with a focus in Food & Beverage!

Kahler recently completed his internship at Bambinos Italian Café, where he's been part of the team for four years. From preparing food behind the scenes to learning the ins and outs of restaurant operations, his experience has given him the opportunity to continue developing his skills in an industry he's passionate about.

For Kahler, one of the most rewarding parts of the job is the people. He especially enjoys food preparation and working alongside coworkers he's built strong friendships with over the years.

His advice for fellow students considering a career in hospitality?

💬 "Find satisfaction in whatever you do. Even in the stress, figure out a way to love what you do and appreciate the experience you're getting."

🐻 Three days, countless connections, and a whole lot of hospitality!

Our Missouri State Hospitality Leadership students recently traveled to St. Louis with Professor Bekebrede for an inside look at the world of private club management!

⛳ The trip kicked off Monday at The Country Club of St. Albans, where students volunteered at the annual Club Management Association of America (CMAA) golf tournament.

Tuesday was packed with behind-the-scenes tours at Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Downtown, Old Warson Country Club, Saint Louis Country Club, and MAC Clayton, with four students from Mizzou's CMAA chapter joining the group along the way! Students also caught up with Hospitality Leadership alumna Baylee Beard at MAC Downtown before wrapping up the day with a networking reception at Westborough Country Club, where they reconnected with fellow alumni Rachel Callier and Adi Postal.

On Wednesday, the group made their final stops at Greenbrier, Westwood, and Bellerive Country Club, rounding out a busy few days of exploring the private club industry.

A big thank-you to all the clubs, staff, and industry professionals who welcomed our students and shared their expertise. We're grateful for everyone who continues to help make this trip possible year after year!
