Our Alpha Psi Tau Chapter is kicking off the PTK Heartland Regional Fall Conference with some chapter bonding, lots of laughs, and a fun adventure at the St. Louis Science Center! 🔬🧪💙💛

The weekend is just getting started, and we can't wait to see what exciting experiences, new friendships, and unforgettable memories are ahead! 🤩

🌟 OFFICER SPOTLIGHT: MADELYN WESTBROOK🌟

Meet Madelyn Westbrook, our Editor-in-Chief of The Pinnacle! 💙💛

Madelyn's PTK journey started with a simple email invitation! Not knowing much about Phi Theta Kappa, she reached out to her navigator, who encouraged her to join. As someone who loves writing, Madelyn became interested in The Pinnacle, Alpha Psi Tau's newsletter. After connecting with the previous editor-in-chief, she was introduced to the Honors Lounge staff and officer team. Two years later, she's still making her mark on PTK! ✍️✨

One of Madelyn's favorite PTK memories is attending Catalyst in Baltimore, Maryland! While the conference itself was an amazing experience, what made it even more special was getting to know her fellow officers. Between the new experiences, meaningful conversations, and, of course, the AMAZING Baltimore food, it's a memory she won't forget! 🦀💙

As Madelyn prepares to wrap up her time as an officer, she's looking forward to finishing strong and making the most of every opportunity. She's especially excited for the Fall Heartland Regional Conference, one last adventure before becoming an Ozarks Tech alum! 🎓✨

🌟 PTK Honorary Member Spotlight: Dr. Daniel Gutirrez!

Meet Dr. Daniel Gutirrez, who has been an Honorary Member of our PTK chapter since March 2009!

Dr. Gutirrez’s journey with PTK started in a way he never expected. When he first began college, he struggled academically, failing his classes during his first semester and facing similar challenges during his second. Things began to change when he started working in the advising area as a work-study student. He began feeling more connected to Ozarks Tech and started taking college more seriously.

One day, his advisor invited him to participate in a community street cleanup with a student organization he led. Dr. Gutirrez decided to give it a try, not realizing at the time that the organization was Phi Theta Kappa. Although his GPA prevented him from becoming an official member, he continued participating as a provisional member throughout his time at Ozarks Tech.

That decision would have a lasting impact on his life.

Dr. Gutirrez credits PTK with helping him stay in college, discover the importance of serving others, and ultimately find his path in life. Through PTK, he participated in community service projects, developed his leadership skills, met people with different perspectives, and traveled to places he may never have otherwise experienced—including Disney World, Texas, Nashville, Seattle, and San Jose. Those experiences eventually helped lead him toward a career in higher education and a life dedicated to serving students.

PTK also challenged him to think critically about the world around him. When he first became involved nearly 20 years ago, conversations centered around the Democratization of Information and how growing access to the internet could create new opportunities. Today, he sees parallels in conversations surrounding artificial intelligence and its impact on students, education, and society. While the issues and technology may change, he believes PTK’s focus on learning, leadership, service, and making a difference remains just as important.

For someone who once believed his early academic struggles meant he could never officially be part of PTK, learning that he has actually been an Honorary Member for more than 17 years makes his story even more full circle.

As Dr. Gutirrez shared, he was never involved in PTK for the accolades or a title. It was about the experiences, opportunities to learn, people he met, and the chance to give back to his community. Those experiences have stayed with him throughout his life and career.

💙 We are proud to recognize Dr. Daniel Gutirrez not only for his long-standing connection to PTK, but also for the impact he continues to have on Ozarks Tech students. His story is a reminder that where you start does not have to determine where you finish—and sometimes, one opportunity to get involved can change the direction of your life.

🌟 PTK Advisor Spotlight: Tracie Nicholson-Pesek!

Meet Tracie Nicholson-Pesek, one of our amazing PTK advisors at the Richwood Valley Campus!

Tracie is a College Navigator and recently started her fifth year at Ozarks Tech. Before joining Ozarks Tech, she spent 26 years working in county government after moving to Missouri from the very cold state of Iowa and graduating from the University of Northern Iowa. At Richwood Valley, she advises students in Agriculture, Electrical Distribution, Business, Teaching, General Studies, Criminal Justice, and more.

One of Tracie’s favorite parts of advising PTK is seeing the excitement in a student’s eyes when they discover all the opportunities PTK has to offer. She values not only the experiences students can have while at Ozarks Tech, but also the scholarship opportunities available when they transfer and the impact PTK can have on their future résumés. While she always enjoys attending the annual PTK Induction Ceremony, one of her proudest PTK memories was being nominated as a PTK Mentor by one of her dear former VIP students in 2024.

This year, Tracie is looking forward to continuing to make memories with her students and being alongside them throughout their journeys at Ozarks Tech. She hopes to be a voice of reason in times of need, a listening ear, a source of moral support, or simply a trusted friend and confidant.

Outside of Ozarks Tech, Tracie is an avid St. Louis Blues fan and loves any opportunity to get outside and hike, no matter the season or environment. Her favorite hiking destination is the Sonoran Desert, and she has even climbed Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in Eryri National Park, the highest mountain in Wales!

Tracie is also a very proud “LALA” to four grandbabies: Colter, Nora, Aurora “Rory,” and Bennett. In her words, she may be a tad biased, but she is pretty confident they are the most precious and perfect four little grandbabies!

One of Tracie’s favorite quotes is:

One of our favorite PTK traditions is coming up, and we would love to celebrate with you!

Our Fall 2026 Ozarks Tech PTK Induction Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 27 at 6:00 PM at the Historic Gillioz Theatre in downtown Springfield.

If you are a new PTK member, or you’ve been a member for a while but have never had the chance to participate in an induction ceremony, we would love to have you join us and be recognized! This ceremony is a chance to celebrate your hard work, academic achievements, and becoming part of Phi Theta Kappa.

Ready to be inducted? Sign up by October 21 at 11:59 PM.

You can also take this opportunity to recognize an Ozarks Tech faculty or staff member who has made a difference in your academic journey by nominating them as a PTK Mentor. Mentor nominations are due October 2 at 11:00 PM.

A few of us took a break from the busy semester and joined in on Ozarks Tech’s event at Getaway Golf last night! Between putt-putt, co****le, ping pong, and plenty of laughs, it was a great chance to relax and just enjoy spending time together.

PTK isn’t always meetings, projects, and service, we make time for a little fun too! 💙💛

Who better to talk about lifelong connections than our PTK alumni?

For Fellowship Friday, we asked our alumni to share the connections, friendships, and memories they made through PTK, and they were more than happy to share their stories with us.

One thing became clear while putting this together: you never know what can come from one little moment. A conversation, a chapter event, a roommate assignment, or simply saying “yes” to an opportunity can turn into a friendship or connection that lasts long after graduation.

Hearing these stories has been such a beautiful reminder to cherish the people and moments we find along the way. PTK may begin during your college experience, but the connections you make can last a lifetime. 💙💛
