Congratulations to Yvonne Cosentino, OTD, OTR/L, director of LLCC's Occupational Therapy Assistant program, on presenting at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 12.

Yvonne's presentation, "Function Meets Food: Supporting Nutrition with Adaptive Tools and Simplified Kitchen Tasks," explored the powerful connection between occupational therapy and culinary medicine. The session highlighted how adaptive tools and practical kitchen strategies can help individuals with physical challenges build healthier eating habits and gain greater independence in meal preparation.

This innovative collaboration demonstrates how occupational therapy helps bridge the gap between understanding healthy nutrition and having the functional skills to put it into practice, ultimately improving independence, supporting healthier lifestyles and enhancing quality of life.

Yvonne partnered on the presentation with Jan Dowell, MS, MHS, CCMS, DipACLM, RDN and LLCC adjunct culinary and biology instructor.

Friday, October 9th, the Illinois Society for Respiratory Care held its Chapter 5 Conference on the beautlful Lincoln Land Community College campus.
We had the honor of presenting Shane Griggs with the first annual LLCC Respiratory Care Preceptor of the year award at this conference. (This is not an ISRC sponsored award or LLCC sponsored award, but sponsored by the Respiratory Care Program specifically)

Shane's demonstrates his passion for respiratory care every day and shares his expertise with students, willingly and joyfully.
Health programs cannot get the next generation prepared without the help of amazing preceptors. Thank you, Shane, for being one of those amazing preceptors. We appreciate all you do!

(The preceptor of the year was awarded based on student voting)

LLCC Occupational Therapy Assistant students recently put their classroom skills into action at the SPARC Employability Skills Workshop. Through a birdhouse-building and painting activity, students worked alongside adults with developmental disabilities while practicing communication and therapeutic techniques.
