🩺 FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Velensia Latimore

Meet one of the amazing faculty members behind your success. Her main course? NURS 401: Community Health Nursing

Dr. Latimore brings over 11 years of Med/Surg experience, 2 years in home health, and more than 12 years in higher education.

Her approach to teaching? Come in with an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations-while recognizing that every student brings something unique and special to their education. ✨

We’re so lucky to have Dr. Latimore helping our future nurses learn how to take nursing beyond the bedside and into the community! 🏥➡️🌎❤️

Twas the night before clinical…🏥We asked senior Katie some of her best advice for the night before a first clinical day, and here is what she said:1️⃣Prepare everything the night before; clean scrubs, badge, lunch, clinical paperwork.2️⃣Test drive the hospital you are going to and make sure you give yourself enough time in the morning so you are not rushed. 3️⃣ Get good sleep and eat!! Your body and health is everything. 4️⃣ Find out who’s in your group and text them questions and meet up at the hospital.5️⃣ Go into clinical excited and remember you are there to learn not perfection. It’s okay to ask questions and be nervous.

“When I think about the best part of Maryville’s nursing program, it wasn’t just earning my degree, it was finding the people who made the journey unforgettable. Through every exam, clinical, late-night study session, and celebration, these friendships became my greatest source of encouragement. They helped turn some of the most challenging years into some of the most meaningful. I’m leaving not only prepared for my dream career, but with lifelong friends who made it all worth it.”🩷🩺

We asked our graduate, Allie, what she wishes someone had told her before her first day of nursing school. Here’s what she said:

“I would tell myself to give myself more grace. Nursing school is hard, and there will be days when you feel overwhelmed or question whether you’re good enough. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s, because everyone learns differently. It all works out in the end. One day you’ll look back and be so happy you stuck with it, even on the days you wanted to quit.”
