Webster University is leader in human rights education, in the U.S. Students and faculty are advancing the study of human rights, as well as engaging in advocacy to protect and promote fundamental rights globally. Webster offers an undergraduate degree in International Human Rights, as well as options for earning a minor or certificate. The interdisciplinary program is taught by Institute Fellows

from across academic disciplines – including political science, international relations, sociology, psychology, legal studies, education, and communications. Students earn credit for practical “Field Experiences,” methods training, and foreign language learning. They also publish their research in the online journal "Righting Wrongs: A Journal of Human Rights," organize their own campus chapter of Amnesty International, and travel the world via semester and short-term study abroad experiences. Come meet Rokaia Elsayed, the new president of Webster’s Amnesty International campus chapter, at the Involvement Fair! Rokaia is a junior studying Computer Science and Business. She loves to draw, paint, and master the Rubik’s Cube. Her family is from Egypt, and she was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. Say “hi” to Rokaia and learn more about Amnesty on Wednesday, September 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Grant Gym. We’ll also have information on hand about publishing your work in the journal “Righting Wrongs,” earning a minor in International Human Rights, and pursuing a major in the brand-new International Relations program with an emphasis in Human Rights.

More than 80 countries are represented across 100+ vendors, dozens of stage performances, and interactive experiences at this free event, August 29 and 30 in Saint Louis’ Tower Grove Park. This event is hosted by the International Institute, which is a nonprofit that welcomes refugees and immigrants into the STL community and helps them thrive here.

Keep the Priest House cozy! We have given the student lounge a little boost this summer. You’ll notice some new couch cushion covers and throw pillows, along with a few new pieces of art. The ground floor hallway now features a “free books” giveaway shelf that faculty will refresh throughout the semester. The lounge also includes a mini fridge stocked with cold sodas, available for $1. (We appreciate everyone’s honesty. If folks pay for their sodas, we can keep stocking the fridge and maybe add some snacks.) We’re ready to welcome you home, Gorlocks.

We interrupt this Summer Break to announce that the submission deadline for our December 2026 issue of “Righting Wrongs: A Journal of Human Rights” has been EXTENDED to June 15! Please help us spread the word to undergraduate researchers at ANY institution. We’re looking for your papers, reviews, and critical essays that explore issues related to human rights and social justice. This is a great way to get experience with academic publishing and possibly gain a peer reviewed writing sample for future job/grad school applications.
