🌟 Shining in the Sim Center! 🌟

Our nursing Billikens have been putting their skills into action this semester! 💙

Alayna Benhoff (TBSN junior), Madison Wallace (TBSN junior), Husmeet Brar (ABSN), Morgan Hargrove (AMSN Year 1), and Lindsay Lee (TBSN junior) have done an outstanding job during their Fall 2026 simulation and skills sessions.

These students worked on SBAR communication and developed teaching points for navigating difficult conversations with parents and family members, building important communication skills they’ll carry into their nursing careers. The Sim Center team celebrated their hard work with a few tokens of appreciation.

💙 A spirit of inquiry in action!

Our SLU nursing students had the opportunity to attend the SLU-SSM Spirit of Inquiry Conference, connecting with healthcare professionals and sharing nursing research through poster presentations.

Experiences like these give our students the chance to turn curiosity into discovery, strengthen their research and communication skills, and see firsthand how evidence can help shape the future of patient care.

🌟 September Spotlight of the Month: Belonging 🌟

Belonging is about more than feeling welcomed. It is knowing you are supported, valued, and an important part of your community.

For September, our ABSN community nominated peers whose actions exemplify that spirit of belonging. We are proud to recognize Professor Kelly Lovan-Gold as our Faculty/Staff honoree and ABSN student Claire Schoenekase as our Student honoree!

💙 Professor Kelly Lovan-Gold | Faculty/Staff Honoree
Professor Lovan-Gold was recognized for creating an environment where students feel welcomed and supported, especially those who may otherwise feel excluded. Through her teaching, advocacy, and the welcoming space she creates for students, she demonstrates what it means to foster belonging.

Claire Schoenekase | ABSN Student Honoree; Claire was recognized for the community she has helped build among her fellow ABSN students. From volunteering to help classmates practice their skills and sharing her knowledge to organizing study opportunities and building relationships with her lab mates, Claire has demonstrated leadership, kindness, and a genuine commitment to helping her peers succeed.

🎓💙 Celebrating our 2026–2028 Jonas Scholars!

Congratulations to Caitlyn Heller and Emily Offenbacker, PhD students at the Saint Louis University Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing, on being selected as Jonas Scholars!

Caitlyn and Emily are among 80 doctoral nursing students nationwide selected for their commitment to teaching, academic excellence, and research.

We are incredibly proud to see them representing SLU Nursing as they continue research aimed at strengthening nursing education and health care.

💙 Nursing education goes beyond the clinical setting!

As part of their public health clinical rotation, SLU nursing students spent time with Girl Scout Troop 86, helping the girls develop the skills needed to earn their First Aid badge. Through hands-on learning, our nursing students had the opportunity to practice their teaching and communication skills while sharing important first aid knowledge and helping the Girl Scouts build confidence in responding when someone needs help.

Experiences like this are a wonderful reminder that nursing is about more than providing care. It’s about service, education, connection, and making a difference in our communities. 💙

We’re proud of our students for taking their nursing knowledge beyond the classroom and putting it into action!

🩺✨ Exploring the Future of Health Care!

We had a great time participating in the Explore Your Future in Health Care Career Exploration Event in Chesterfield, MO!

Students had the opportunity to learn more about nursing, ask questions about their next steps toward entering a nursing program, and get hands-on experience at our interactive activity table. Participants practiced with Glo Germ lotion, full PPE, heart and lung sounds, and a black-light activity to see how easily germs can spread. 🧤🦠🫁

It was exciting to connect with future health care professionals and give them a glimpse into the world of nursing. 💙
