Harris-Stowe State University extends a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Sheila Phillips, HSSU Class of 2013, for delivering a powerful message to our Class of 2030 during Convocation.

From the importance of giving yourself permission to rest, to being the person who opens doors and creates opportunities for others, Ms. Phillips reminded our newest Hornets that success is about more than academics, it’s about how you care for yourself and how you make an impact along the way.

And one reminder that will always stand the test of time: there is always value in a good book.

Thank you, Ms. Phillips, for sharing your wisdom, your experiences, and these meaningful tidbits to carry with them throughout their academic journeys and beyond. 🐝

Harris-Stowe State University officially welcomed the Class of 2030 during our Rite of Passage and Passing the Torch Convocation while also celebrating our juniors as they ascend into their core courses and begin the next chapter of their academic journey.

Our keynote speaker and Harris-Stowe alumna Sheila Phillips, Class of 2013, shared words of wisdom on the importance of encouraging the next generation of scholars and reminding our students that success also means taking care of yourself. Her message to give your brain some rest was a reminder that you can’t pour from an empty cup.

We also celebrated our student leaders as they officially pledged into their roles, including our presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and Royal Court.

And as we lit candles representing our past, our present, and our future, we were reminded that every Hornet has a role in carrying the Harris-Stowe legacy forward.

Here’s to the Class of 2030, our ascending juniors, our student leaders, and the bright future ahead. 🐝✨
