Meet our Honorable Distinction recipient, Stanley Dooley ’21 🐝

For more than 20 years, Stanley Dooley has answered the call to serve across education, corrections, law enforcement, and community leadership. A former educator, career specialist and championship basketball coach, Stanley later served with the St. Louis County Department of Justice Services before joining the St. Louis County Police Department.

Today, he is a Sergeant in the Division of Criminal Investigation, Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, and serves as President of the St. Louis County Chapter of the Ethical Society of Police. His journey reflects a career grounded in service, commitment, and strengthening the communities around him.

Meet our Innovator, Patrick Melvin II ’15 🐝

For Patrick Melvin II, service means helping young people see the possibilities ahead of them. As a Detention Deputy Juvenile Officer with St. Louis County Government, Patrick provides leadership, guidance, and mentorship to youth involved in the Family Court juvenile system, with a focus on accountability and helping young people recognize their potential. His work has also taken him to state meetings in Jefferson City, where professionals from across Missouri collaborate on ways to better serve youth.

Patrick continues to carry forward the values of service, leadership, and purpose strengthened during his time at Harris-Stowe.

Thank you to Congressman Wesley Bell, Missouri State Representative Ray Reed, and our guest of honor, Stacey Abrams, for joining us at Harris-Stowe State University for a meaningful conversation about the importance of voting and civic engagement.

As we approach the upcoming election, our guests emphasized the power of every voice and the importance of understanding how our participation shapes our communities. Stacey Abrams shared a powerful reminder that civic engagement should be treated as a process, not an event. Getting involved shouldn't stop when an election ends; it requires continued participation, awareness, and action throughout the year.

We're grateful to our guests for sharing their insights and encouraging our Hornets and campus community to remain informed, engaged, and active in the democratic process.
