They came ready for honors. Before arriving at St. Mary’s, members of our
entering class collectively completed more than 4,429 honors, AP and IB courses. Among
students who identified an academic area of interest, the three most popular are:
• Psychology: 69
• Business administration: 65
• Biology: 63
The class also includes 32 DeSousa-Brent Scholars, 25 students in the Sum Primus Program
for first-generation college students and 34 Monument Scholars. They’ve already accomplished
a lot. We can’t wait to see what they do next.

Happy First Day of school! It felt so good seeing all these smiling faces back on campus today! Especially all our new SMCM Seahawks! This fall, St. Mary’s College of Maryland
welcomed 489 new first-year and transfer students from across Maryland, across the country
and around the world. They represent:
• 19 states + Washington, D.C.
• 22 of Maryland’s 24 counties
• 215 high schools
• 41 four-year and community colleges

💙💛Alex Curtiss '16 and Madison Bashaw '24 were members of USA 1, winner of the World Sailing Open Team Racing World Championship, held in Stockholm, Sweden, August 12 -16.

They join an elite group of St. Mary’s College alumni to achieve world champion status in this discipline. Previous winners of this championship are: Mark Ivey '99 and Matt Lindblad '99 in 2005; Danny Pletsch '04, Caleb Silsby '03 and Paige Hannon Silsby '05 in 2006; and Justin Law '08, Michael Menninger '11 and Adrienne Patterson '08 in 2015.💙💛
