Please join us in congratulating one of our MLA students, Utsav Gupta, on his award-winning presentation at the AGLSP, Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs annual conference!

Last month, students, alumni, faculty and staff from liberal studies programs across the country gathered at Southern Methodist University in Dallas to present ideas and engage in captivating conversation.

Utsav presented on his thesis titled "The Turing Test for Civilization: Human Purpose and the Work We Should Not Automate."

In his thesis, Utsav turns Turing's question on its head.

“Turing asked whether a machine could convincingly perform as a human. Machines now largely can, in many areas, with capacity growing every day,” said Utsav. “So I argue that the question becomes: which work should stay human even when a machine could do it well, or even significantly better than a human?”

Congratulations on your 3rd place award, Utsav! 🥉
