Last Friday, our club had the opportunity to participate in the annual Penn State Homecoming Parade! During the parade, we were able to advertise our annual Turkey Harvest sale!
If you are interested in supporting our club in our annual turkey sale fundraiser, keep an eye out for the order forms! This year, our order forms open on October 23rd at noon!

For our next internship spotlight, we’d like to recognize Alexis Otstott!
This summer, Alexis had the opportunity to intern with Empire Kosher Poultry. She worked as a Poultry Service Technician Intern, focusing on the turkey side of the operation. Alexis shadowed turkey service technicians while gaining hands-on experience in flock maintenance, flock evaluation, and communication with growers. The experience allowed her to apply her classroom knowledge to real-world poultry production and develop valuable relationships within the industry! 🦃🐔

For our next internship spotlight, we’d like to recognize Evangeline McGargle!
This summer, Eve had the opportunity to intern with Bell and Evans, located in Fredericksburg, PA. Over the summer, she completed a 12-week Food Safety Systems Technician Internship under the FSQR department. She worked on two main projects where she created visual work instructions to standardize training for Process Control Monitors and developed a Monitoring Matrix for Interventions and Equipment in 1st and 2nd processing. Eve also supported their Salmonella reduction trials and initiatives by collecting samples, entering data, and creating educational material to promote food safety culture. While there, she was able to shadow different teams under the Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory department to learn more about the company. Eve says, “I really loved learning about collaboration between research and production, and Bell and Evans is a great company to work for!” 🐔

For our next internship spotlight, we’d like to recognize Nathan Swope!
This summer, Nathan had the opportunity to intern with Cooper Farms. Throughout the course of the summer, he spent time in each of their various stages of production at many facilities. Nathan was able to work as a team member in production and, as a management consultant, share ideas and discuss problems. Also, he was able to complete some data collection and research on the presence and impact of anemia in sows. Nathan says, “There is always something to learn and take away from every moment and opportunity. Always approach a situation with an open mind.” 🐔🐷

For our next internship spotlight, we’d like to recognize Emily Bechdel!
This summer, Emily had the opportunity to intern with Perdue Foods. During her internship, she worked in an organic broiler grow-out in Fredericksburg, PA, for 11 weeks. She completed a project comparing 7-day weights to aspects of settlement data, such as average daily gain and feed conversion ratio. Emily also got to visit every aspect of the process, from breeders and hatchery to the processing plant! 🐔

For our next internship spotlight, we’d like to recognize Cora Musser!
This summer, Cora had the opportunity to intern with Wayne-Sanderson Farms. During her internship, she conducted a litter management and paw quality study in broilers. Aside from time spent on her project, Cora spent time learning the roles of the broiler and breeder teams, hatchery functions, and the processing plant system! 🐔
