📣 Welcome Our Newest Faculty Member to the Department of Kinesiology!
The Department of Kinesiology is pleased to welcome Dr. Fan Zhang to Arkansas State University!
Drawn to A-State by its welcoming, supportive, and collaborative culture, Dr. Zhang was inspired by the department’s commitment to student success and its mission of preparing future professionals to make a positive impact in schools and communities.
This fall, he will be teaching:
✅ Physical Education for Teachers of Young Children
✅ Using Technology and Evaluation in Physical Education
✅ Physical Education Curriculum
His expertise includes physical education teacher education (PETE), motivation in physical activity, sport pedagogy, coaching, and research methods and evaluation. His research focuses on understanding what motivates people to be physically active, improving physical education teaching practices, and developing tools that support motivation and learning.
Students interested in research will have opportunities to participate in literature reviews, survey design, data collection, data analysis, conference presentations, and scholarly publications.
What he enjoys most about teaching is helping students build confidence, develop practical skills, and discover their potential as future professionals. His advice to students: Stay curious, seek out hands-on experiences, and embrace opportunities to learn by doing.
He also encourages students to take advantage of experiences beyond the classroom, including field experiences, research opportunities, professional conferences, and mentoring relationships with faculty and peers.
🏀 Fun Fact: He played and later coached a university basketball team, and he continues to enjoy physical activities that bring people together.
His message to students is simple: Kinesiology opens doors to diverse careers where you can educate, lead, and improve the health and well-being of others.
