In honor of 'Celebrate Together' today, we're looking back at the Armstrong Campus! 💛

In 1935, Savannah Mayor Thomas Gamble founded Armstrong Junior College to expand access to higher education for local students. In 1996, Armstrong held its first "AASU Day," marking its new name and university status. Today, we carry those traditions forward each October with Celebrate Together.

Steven Bernhard (’21) wasn’t sure what career he wanted to pursue, but once he discovered accounting, he knew he’d found his fit. 🤝

After earning his bachelor’s degree, Steven began working as an auditor. Encouragement to pursue graduate study led him to Georgia Southern’s online Master of Accounting program, where he balanced coursework with full-time work. 🦅

He says, “Georgia Southern didn’t just give me technical knowledge, it broadened my perspective and prepared me to apply accounting principles to real-world, interdisciplinary challenges.”

Today, Steven is an accounting manager at KIHOMAC, leading accounting operations, mentoring team members and supporting financial planning. Grounded in service, integrity and trust, his leadership reflects what he values most about accounting: solving problems and helping others succeed.

His advice to accounting students? Keep ethics central to everything you do and find ways to give back to your community.

"Looking back, finding accounting gave me purpose and direction, and Georgia Southern gave me the academic rigor and professional confidence I needed to become the leader I am today." 💙

Steven earned his master’s degree from the Georgia Southern University Parker College of Business in 2021.
