Olivia Ortiz's college journey began shortly after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Inspired by the care her mother received, she is now stepping into her dream career as a mammographer at the Telfair Cancer Pavilion, supporting patients just like her mom, having earned her degree from the Waters College of Health Professions at Georgia Southern University.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Steve Patterson on his induction into the GATA Hall of Fame!

For more than 14 years at Georgia Southern, Dr. Patterson has made a lasting impact on our athletic training program through his leadership, mentorship and dedication to student success. His commitment to excellence in education, clinical practice and service to the profession continues to shape future athletic trainers and inspire those around him.

We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and grateful for the difference he has made at Georgia Southern University and beyond.

With 26 years as a certified athletic trainer and a distinguished academic career across Vanguard University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Nova Southeastern University, Steve has dedicated more than 14 years at Georgia Southern shaping the next generation of athletic trainers.

A respected educator, clinician, and leader, Steve has been instrumental in advancing athletic training education—guiding program growth, navigating accreditation and degree transitions, and ensuring students receive exceptional, real-world preparation. His impact extends nationally through service to professional committees, peer review, curriculum development, and scholarly work.

Known for his commitment to both teaching and clinical practice, Steve continues to model excellence in the classroom, in research, and in the field. His dedication, leadership, and character have left a lasting mark on students, colleagues, and the profession as a whole.
