Today was filled with mixed emotions. In 2019 they arrived to college filled with nervous anxiety. They were unsure, uncertain and some were unprepared, but the faces I witnessed today were of joy, confidence, hopefulness and pride. As their teacher, I felt a sense of accomplishment knowing that I played a small role in their academic development. Together, we navigated through many academic, social, financial, physical, mental and even legal challenges. Together we cried, laughed, travelled, performed and yes, got angry, but we didn’t give up on each other.

I am exceptionally proud of this my first four year graduating class of students. We arrived to MBU as strangers and are now departing as family. Though most of us will not remain to walk these hallowed hills, our legacies will stand the test of time. We have implemented programs, facilitated hard discussions and developed multiple opportunities for student collaborations that ushered in change. We also created space for many more voices to be heard and we are proud about it.

So today, I say congratulations to the MBU class of 2023 and leave you with these words: “The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and give you peace.” Go be great. Go make a difference. Go make change. I hope you know that I’ll be rooting for you even from a distance. Remember, you have a forever choral family who will support and encourage you to be the BEST you possible. All you have to do is…REACH OUT!

Much love,
Dr. Robertson

It was a beautiful day for the 181st MBU Commencement Ceremony. This was exceptionally emotional being that most of these students arrived with me four years ago. They were with me when the world stopped. We helped each other navigate through a global pandemic. They are unstoppable! These are MY grown kiddos and I love them so much. I pray that their dreams will continue to manifest in their lives. Go be great! Mary Baldwin University Choir Mary Baldwin University

The last person we want to congradulate on graduating is our President this year, Laryn Weeks.

Laryn Weeks is a Music Major who has been involved in the choir all four years she has been on campus. She has also been a part of Baldwin Singers all those years as well as being the Social Media Chair for two years before it was combined with the President's duties. Laryn plans to start substitute teaching in the fall for various surrounding counties before continuing on to get her teaching licensure. She also plans to take a more active role in her family's sheep farm as she will be back home. Laryn has also been a part of the String Ensemble on campus and hopes it continues to grow when she leaves. Laryn has greatly enjoyed making friends while at MBU and will miss the camaraderie after she graduates.

"I just want to thank Dr. Robertson and Johanna Beaver for pushing me in all areas, not just choir and music. I would not have been able to get to this point in my musical journey without their support and presence behind me."
