Our ANSC 4330 – Horse Enterprise Management students recently traveled to Aubrey, TX, for a full day of hands-on learning in the equine industry! 🐴

Students visited Weems & Stephens Equine Hospital, where they observed a standing surgical procedure performed by Dr. Kevin Claunch, DVM, DACVS, before heading to Vita Nova Reproduction Center to gain hands-on experience collecting equine oocytes and learning about assisted reproductive technologies.

From reproductive physiology and anatomy to laboratory techniques, students saw how concepts from across their undergraduate coursework come together in real-world applications!

A huge thank you to Weems & Stephens Equine Hospital and Vita Nova Reproduction Center for welcoming our students, sharing their expertise, and providing these valuable learning opportunities. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between the classroom and future careers in the equine industry!

Learning the Business Behind the Horse Industry!

Students in ANSC 4330, Horse Enterprise Management, recently got hands-on experience learning how nutrition and business management go hand in hand in the equine industry.

During lab, students took weight measurements and body condition scores on horses before researching commercially available feeds and calculating the cost of feeding each horse. Through this activity, students are building practical skills in budgeting, cost allocation, management, and equine enterprise operations.
With lectures taught by Dr. Rafael Martinez and labs overseen by Paxton Turner, students are gaining valuable knowledge to help prepare them for careers across the equine industry.🐎
