Students in our Hill Country Field Camp spent 10 days in the Texas Hill Country gaining hands-on experience in wildlife, land, and range management. 🌿🐾

Through immersive fieldwork, including data collection, site assessments, and applied problem-solving, students connected classroom concepts to real-world challenges while building essential professional skills for future careers.

From early morning field exercises to late-night discussions on management strategies, this experience reinforced the connection between science, decision-making, and on-the-ground application in natural resource professions. 🌾🦌🌎

Tarleton State University attended a joint annual meeting of the Entomological Society of America-Southwestern Branch and the Society of Southwestern Entomologists in Amarillo, Texas! 🐛

These students had big successes in the team and individual competitions! We are proud of our students who gave an outstanding performance at the conference as research scholars, early career professionals, and as ambassadors to Tarleton State University! 💜

Big win for agriculture students! 🚀

The Plant the Moon Challenge team took home recognition at the College of Engineering’s Student Research Project Showcase at the EECU Center last week.

Shoutout to our College of Agriculture students Kaden Lewis, Corinne Fonte, and Grace Heavyside, and Dr. Lisandro Entio for their role in this achievement—pushing the boundaries of agricultural research and innovation.

Congratulations to Grace Heavyside from Lipan, TX, for being recognized as the Outstanding Undergraduate Student from the Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources!

"Both of my parents attended Tarleton, so I grew up hearing countless stories about their time here and the many opportunities the University offered them, which made Tarleton always feel like home for me." Heavyside said. "I never really considered other schools because Tarleton was the only place I was ever meant to go."

Graduating with a B.S. in Wildlife, Sustainability, and Ecosystem Sciences, Heavyside will be continuing her education at Tarleton State University in the pursuit of a master's degree focusing on soil science and sustainable agriculture.

Students in SOIL 3101: Soil Science took learning below the surface! They examined soil pits to identify horizons, texture, and structure while learning how soils develop and function in the landscape.

Join the Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources for the opportunity to explore the biogeography and conservation issues along the Rio Grande River in Texas!

The class will include 9 days of travel (May 11-19) following the Rio Grande River from the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas (Big Bend N.P.) to the Coastal Plain area of South Texas (Padre Island National Seashore). The class will combine in-context learning, excursions, and discussions that enhance the understanding of the various regions’ plant and animal communities (biogeography).

Consequences of history, land use, human population growth, water usage, border wall construction, and trans-national cooperation for the regions will also be explored.
