Colorado native Dalton Knecht ranked in the top 10 of NJCAA players for 2020-21. He is a special talent who showed up and took advantage of every opportunity Northeastern Junior College offered.
Knecht averaged 13.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game as a freshman, earning a Region IX All-Region selection. Dalton helped Northeastern to a 24-8 record, the NJCAA Region IX regular season title, and advanced to the Region IX Championship game. Knecht finished the year shooting 45 percent from behind the arc. He scored 20-plus points nine times, including a career-best 29 against Western Nebraska.
Dalton took a big leap his sophomore year averaging 23.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. He made his presence felt on the court as an athletic 3 level scorer shooting 51 percent from the field and 40 percent from three. Knecht and the Plainsmen went on to win the Region IX Tournament bringing a lot of joy to the community of Sterling.
The Junior College All-American continued his story at the University of Northern Colorado from 2021-2023. As a senior, he led the Big Sky Conference with 20.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Knecht’s senior year performance earned him Second-team All-Big Sky honors.
Dalton quickly grew in popularity when he transferred to Tennessee for the 2023-2024 basketball season. He had many dominate 30 point performances throughout his time at Tennessee. On March 9, 2024, Knecht set a career high 40 points on senior night! Knecht was named SEC Player of the Year by both the league’s coaches and the Associated Press. He was also named SEC Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press.
Knecht’s NBA journey started when he was selected with the 17th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA draft. Dalton signed with the Lakers on July 3, 2024, and he is a Laker to this day…
