Faith lived out through service. The Arlinghaus family of Maryland was recently named Family of the Year, recognizing the many ways they put their Catholic faith into action, from defending the dignity of life and supporting mothers in need to caring for the elderly and serving their parish and community.

With three of their children having attended or currently attending Franciscan University, we’re especially grateful to celebrate the Arlinghaus family and the beautiful witness of faith and service they share.

After taking time off from community college to serve the Church, Ashley transferred to Franciscan in 2022. She studied theology as an online student while also working full-time in parish ministry. She shared, “The formation I received at Franciscan allowed me to form and pour into the parishes I was serving. Franciscan deepened my love for theology and for the Church. My professors formed me very well as they moved my heart both academically and spiritually through their witness and love for the Lord.”

In the spring of 2025, Ashley studied abroad in Austria. She says, “I grew deeper in love with catechetics and the sacraments through a beautiful professor who really impacted me. As a result, I decided to pursue a master’s degree in catechetics and evangelization. Franciscan has planted deep seeds in my heart that will continue to grow for the rest of my life.”

This past May, Ashley graduated with her bachelor’s degree in theology. 🎓

Did you know Franciscan University hosts pilgrimages around the world? 🌎

Our latest pilgrimage took travelers through Denmark and Norway, bringing together Catholic faith, history, culture, and some unforgettable scenery.

Along the way, pilgrims:
⛪ Celebrated Mass at historic churches and cathedrals in Copenhagen, Bergen, and Oslo
🙏 Followed the footsteps of saints and missionaries who brought the Catholic faith to Scandinavia
🏰 Explored centuries of Christian and Viking history, from Roskilde Cathedral to medieval stave churches
🇩🇰 Experienced the culture and history of Copenhagen, Roskilde, Odense, and Jutland
🇳🇴 Journeyed through Norway’s breathtaking fjords, mountains, waterfalls, and historic cities

From learning about Saint Ansgar’s missionary work in Scandinavia to celebrating Mass at Saint Olav’s Cathedral in Oslo, this pilgrimage offered the chance to encounter the beauty of the Church while experiencing a remarkable part of the world.
