What a great way to kick off the CNR experience! Our first-year students gathered with faculty, staff, and fellow classmates for floats, conversations, and new connections.

From meeting new people to learning more about the College of Natural Resources, it was a chance to start building the relationships that will make their CNR journey special.

We are truly thankful for the lasting legacy John has left behind. 💜💛

From birdwatcher to conservation champion, John Wenger ('65, MS '80) lived a life of adventure, purpose and generosity. Through a transformational $2.2 million estate gift to the UWSP College of Natural Resources, his legacy will support student scholarships and inspire future generations of environmental leaders.

We LOVE seeing a UW-Stevens Point connection in the field! An alumnus spotted a distinct UWSP Fire Crew sweatshirt and shared this post with us. Great to see that UWSP-trained expertise is represented in this important work! We are proud of everyone working on the front lines and commend their dedication to protecting our forests and communities.

Fun fact: UW-Stevens Point has an active fire crew and offers a Wildland Fire Certificate that prepares the next generation for hands-on careers in wildland fire management.

Our Wisconsin Center for Wildlife will be at Deerfest this weekend. Stop by and say hello!

Check out our booth at DeerFest 2026, this weekend at the Holiday Inn in Stevens Point, and learn how to age a deer by its teeth!

WCW Outreach Specialist Jennifer Summers; UW-Stevens Point Wildlife Assistant Professor and Ungulate Specialist Monet Gomes in the exhibitor space and some of our students will be there to teach you to age deer jaws, or test your skills if you already know how!

Try our self-guided, step-by-step jaw aging activity, or allow us to walk you through the process. By the end of the activity, you will be able to confidently differentiate between fawn, yearling, and adult deer, and understand characteristics that differentiate deer over the age of 2.5 years.

Students at Treehaven recently took part in a prescribed burn that supported an ongoing forestry research project focused on how fire influences forest understory vegetation, the survival of naturally regenerated red pine, and future forest conditions.

Research opportunities like this provide valuable hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful research.

We are proud to celebrate Jonathan Kaiser, who was recently named the 2025 Warden of the Year by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Throughout his career as a conservation warden, Kaiser has earned a reputation as a dependable teammate, dedicated public servant and leader in the field. His investigative work, commitment to community policing and willingness to mentor fellow wardens have made a lasting impact across Wisconsin.

His recognition is a testament to the knowledge, skills and dedication that natural resources professionals bring to their communities every day.

From August 21-23, 2026, enjoy the last days of summer with outdoor activities, campfires, s’mores, hiking, stargazing and more. Guests can sign up for Friday and Saturday nights or just Saturday night. The weekend is designed for adults and children aged 10 and older only.
