We're thrilled to share photos of the new interpretive signs at Powers Bluff County Park in Arpin. The signs share the history of the native community that lived on the site, then known as Skunk Hill, in the early 1900s. Professor Rob Harper and research assistant Jarita Bavido helped develop these signs in collaboration with Wood County Parks, the Ho-Chunk and Prairie Band Potawatomi nations, and community descendants. Very special thanks to the Ho-Chunk and Prairie Band language departments, who prepared Ho-Chunk and Potawatomi text for the signs. And very very special thanks to Fred and Germaine Pidgeon, who have been researching the hill's history for over 25 years. Fred's great-grandfather White Pigeon appears on the signs, along with many other relatives.
