It has become a tradition in the English Department to send our graduating seniors off with personalized goodbyes. Ones that help others understand what it has been like working with them throughout their time here at Stevenson. Additionally, we like to leave them with a little creative mustang. These mustangs represent the core traits of what it means to be an English Major, and the ways our seniors most shined during their time at Stevenson.

Join us as we share our memories and hopes with our graduating seniors.

More from Tuesday’s English Department Student Showcase!

Our ENG 402 Capstone panels featured ambitious and insightful student scholarship on a wide variety of subjects: there were papers on q***r and psychoanalytic readings of genre media, trauma and marginalized identities, and the intersections of identity, performance, and economic incentives.

Congratulations to all of our presenters and faculty chairs for an excellent evening of discussion and research!

The Greenspring Review in collaboration with The Villager hosted their annual poetry contest, Verses, yesterday evening in the Phillip A Zafere Library. Seven contestants read their poetry to a lovely audience that filled the quiet reading space with snaps of appreciation. Poems explored topics that ranged from the exquisite nature of death to the pain of hope. The fleeting beauty captured in front of the fridge light to a multilingual exploration of of home. Examination of a generational pain and an insistance for the recognition of the whole self. The Faculty judges had their work cut out for them! In the end three winners were selected: Radiant Rage (first prize $100), Jacob Greene (second place, $75), and third place for a duet, Angelina Avila & Raquel Argueta ($50).

Wednesday night Visiting Author Erika Robuck read from her latest novel, The Last Assignment, then sat down with Professor Emeritus Gerald Van Aken for a Q&A about writing, publishing, and inspiration. After the event, there was a book raffle and signing. It was a wonderful night of literature and discussion. Erika is also a Stevenson University alumni, and we're so grateful we were able to have Erika and Gerry on campus together again!

Robuck is the author of ten historical novels, including Hemingway’s Girl, Call Me Zelda, Fallen Beauty, The House of Hawthorne, The Invisible Woman, Sisters of Night and Fog, The Last Twelve Miles, and The Last Assignment.

This morning Visiting Author Erika Robuck joined our Introduction to Digital Publishing class to sit down with host of The Greenspring Review's podcast, In the Room, Olivia Capino, and audio manager, Camille Tillman, for a recorded interview. The conversation spanned the research and spirits Robuck brings to life in her fiction, her experiences in the publishing industry, and how life, family, and current events affect her writing.

After the interview, Majors will have the opportunity to continue the conversation over a student author lunch with faculty. Later, Robuck will visit our English Capstone class, and tomorrow our Vampire Lit class.

Everyone can join us tomorrow, Wednesday March 11h in Rockland Ballroom at 6pm for a public reading and special Q&A with Professor Emeritus Gerald Van Aken!
