A few of our Pokeapella Singin' Cowboys performers and Prof. Steve Sanders enjoyed an unforgettable evening of western swing last week at Tower Theatre in Oklahoma City! The group attended a performance by Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys and even had the opportunity to meet members of the legendary band.
Formed in 1933, the Texas Playboys helped shape western swing by blending country music with jazz, blues and big-band influences. Their deep Oklahoma roots include years of live radio broadcasts from Tulsa’s historic Cain’s Ballroom, and their classics include “San Antonio Rose,” “Faded Love” and “Take Me Back to Tulsa.”
What a great opportunity to connect with the musicians carrying this iconic American sound into a new generation! 🤠🎶
