Cowboy family,

I want to assure you that our campus remains safe. While Stillwater and areas around us have been significantly affected, including parts of Lake Carl Blackwell, yesterday’s outbreak of wildfires has not directly impacted our core campus grounds.

Like Stillwater, so many communities across the state have been severely impacted. The pain and uncertainty so many are facing today is unimaginable, and my deepest sympathies go out to all those who have lost their homes, been displaced or are struggling.

The swift response from our emergency response teams has been nothing short of extraordinary. I want to express my utmost gratitude to all of our first responders as well as our transit team, which quickly redirected buses to help with evacuations.

I'm particularly proud of how quickly our community is coming together to help those in need. The Colvin Center Annex was promptly opened as a shelter, providing refuge for our students and employees. This immediate response exemplifies who we are as Cowboys — people who step up when our neighbors are in need.

For those who may still need assistance, several emergency shelters remain available. As we continue to monitor the situation, I urge everyone to remain vigilant and follow the guidance of emergency officials. Stay informed of the latest safety updates by downloading the Rave Guardian app, following official university social media channels and visiting safety.okstate.edu.

In the coming days, we will assess the full impact of these fires on our broader community and determine how we can best support the recovery efforts.

Our hearts go out to all those affected and we extend our gratitude to the many hands working tirelessly to battle these fires and render aid. I encourage everyone to rally around their neighbors and find ways to support relief efforts, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply offering comfort to those who need it most.

To those who are frightened, grieving, or unsure of what comes next, please know that you are not alone. The Cowboy family stands with you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jim Hess
Interim President
Oklahoma State University

It is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

This year’s observance is a powerful reminder that eating disorders are serious, complex mental health conditions that affect people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.

Why It Matters:

Eating disorders impact over 28 million Americans in their lifetime.
Early intervention can save lives and improve recovery outcomes.
Awareness helps break the stigma and encourages open conversations about mental health and body image.

At Oklahoma State University, the BIDE Lab (Body Image, Disordered Eating, and Diversity Lab), led by Dr. Tonya Hammer, is actively researching these critical topics. Their work focuses on understanding the complexities of body image, disordered eating behaviors, and how diverse factors influence these experiences.

💡 How You Can Get Involved:

Educate yourself and others about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors.
Support loved ones by fostering a compassionate, non-judgmental environment.
Share resources to connect those struggling with professional help.

✨ Recovery is possible. Let’s spread hope, raise awareness, and support those affected.
