What happens to antibiotics after they've done their job on the farm?

Some can remain in livestock wastewater, along with genetic material that allows bacteria to resist antibiotics. If left untreated, those contaminants can move beyond the farm and contribute to the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Dr. Kiranmayi Mangalgiri and an interdisciplinary research team, including Dr. Mark Krzmarzick, are studying the effectiveness of ozone nanobubbles in addressing the problem.

The goal is to build the scientific knowledge needed to make wastewater treatment more predictable and effective for livestock producers.

“Everyone benefits from cleaner water,” Mangalgiri said. “If we can remove these contaminants before they leave the farm, we're helping protect agriculture, communities, and public health.”

What does it take to respond when every second and every decision matters?

This week, first responders from around the globe are putting those skills to the test at RIVERSPORT’s Whitewater Center in OKC during the 2026 Swiftwater Conference and Championship Games, hosted by Oklahoma State University's Fire Service Training.

The five-day conference combines classroom instruction with hands-on training in a controlled whitewater environment, allowing first responders to sharpen the skills needed to respond to some of the most dangerous and unpredictable emergencies they face.

OSU FST instructors and subject matter experts lead the training, drawing on experience responding to major floods, hurricanes, and other large-scale emergencies.

Watch the video to learn more about the caliber of this training and how it's benefiting people around the globe.

Some of the most exciting engineering challenges aren't on Earth.

The ROPEO project, led by Dr. Imraan Faruque and co-PI Dr. John O'Hara, is helping improve how spacecraft detect orbital debris traveling at speeds approaching Mach 40.

For CEAT students Ryan Karow and Parker Shields, this research goes beyond the classroom, providing opportunities to work with the Air Force Research Laboratory, visit NASA facilities, and contribute to technologies that could help make space operations safer in the future.
