🧬🌱 **Faculty Research Spotlight: Dr. Robert L. Burnap**

How do cyanobacteria capture CO₂ efficiently enough to power photosynthesis?

Recent work coauthored by Dr. Robert Burnap identifies a previously unrecognized small protein, SbtC, that helps regulate bicarbonate transport in cyanobacteria.

In a second publication, Dr. Burnap explores the molecular machinery connecting electron transfer, energy conservation, and CO₂ uptake.

🧬🎨 Microbiology meets sidewalk art!

MMG undergraduate researchers Ian Matzell and Justin Thomas took their science out of the lab and onto the sidewalk as part of OSU’s inaugural Undergraduate Fall Research Sidewalk Symposium.

The event challenged undergraduate researchers to communicate their work using nothing but chalk, creativity, and a square of sidewalk—and Ian and Justin were featured in OSU’s coverage of the event.

Congratulations to Ian and Justin, and to the Kirchberger and Reed labs, for representing MMG and undergraduate research in such a creative way! 👏🔬

Research Spotlight: Three Recent Publications from the Patrauchan Lab

Congratulations to Dr. Marianna Patrauchan and her research team on three recent publications advancing our understanding of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biology.

The studies explore intracellular calcium signaling, calcium-driven metabolic adaptation, and regulation of ferrous iron acquisition.
