Just *2 days* left to raise money for students who competed at the IPT. We finished in 6th place (in the World!) this year and the team is more motivated than ever to go back next year, but we still need help paying for the this trip! Every little bit helps, so please consider donating even just $10. We really really appreciate your support! And you can also help by sharing this http://philanthropete.osugiving.com/physics2024
with anyone you know who may be interested. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Anyone at OSU interested in cosmology and the universe, there will a p***c talk today at 3:30 in Physical Science 110

THE ACCELERATING EXPANDING UNIVERSE: DARK MATTER, DARK ENERGY, AND EINSTEIN'S COSMOLOGICAL CONSTANT

Abstract: Dark energy is the leading candidate for the mechanism that is responsible for causing the cosmological expansion to accelerate. Bharat Ratra will describe the astronomical data which persuade cosmologists that (as yet undetected) dark energy and dark matter are by far the main components of the energy budget of the universe at the present time. He will review how these observations have led to the development of a quantitative "standard" model of cosmology that describes the evolution of the universe from an early epoch of inflation to the complex hierarchy of structure seen today. In this non-technical talk, he will also discuss the basic physics, and the history of ideas, on which this model is based.

Quantum entanglement is one of the most astonishing properties of quantum mechanics. If two particles are entangled, the state of one particle cannot be described independently from the other. This is a unique property of the quantum world and forms a crucial difference between classical and quantum...
