Today is ACEs & PACEs Awareness Day in Oklahoma, highlighting how early experiences shape lifelong health. While Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can have lasting effects, Protective and Compensatory Experiences (PACEs) remind us that support, care and connection can make all the difference.

We’re grateful for the students and professors working every day to better understand these challenges and build pathways toward a stronger community!đŸ€

We are saddened by the passing of Philip Erdoes (OSU ’85, B.S. in Biology/Biomedicine). Philip’s leadership and generosity left a lasting mark on Oklahoma State University. Through his philanthropy, and as an inductee into the Oklahoma State University College of Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame, he championed opportunities for students and strengthened our Cowboy community. Philip and his wife, Mary, established the Erdoes Family Scholarship at OSU-OKC and were excited to see the difference it was making in the lives of our students. We honor his remarkable legacy and extend our thoughts to his family and loved ones. 🧡

In November, Dr. Reanae McNeal, assistant professor of Africana Studies and Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies, curated the exhibition “Oklahoma Freedwomen: Survivance, Land Memory, and Afro-Indigenous (Her)stories”, which was on display in Willard Hall. The exhibition highlighted the lives of Oklahoma Freedwomen — specifically the Freedwomen formerly enslaved by the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee (Creek), and Seminole nations. In the theme of a patchwork quilt, the interactive exhibit was made up of multiple
posters that stitched together a variety of historical and depictive images and narrative excerpts from the interviews of Cherokee Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee (Creek), and Seminole Freedwomen collected in the 1930s.
“This is an important example of the amazing humanities research being conducted at OSU,” said Dr. Jennifer Borland, director of the OSU Center for the Humanities. “Dr. McNeal’s research illuminates important histories relevant to Oklahoma through a powerful and creative approach that foregrounds these women’s experiences and stories through images, archival documents and oral histories. Audiences should learn not only about the exhibit and it research, but also about Dr. McNeal’s unique approach and methodology, which foregrounds memory, healing and survival through artistic interpretation.”
