Thermal Lake Stratification in Action. We used a simple laboratory exercise to visualize one of the most important physical processes in lakes and reservoirs that influences biological and chemical conditions, from the distribution of organisms and nutrients to oxygen availability throughout the water column. As summer gives way to fall, lakes will begin to lose heat, stratification breaks down, and the water column eventually mixes from top to bottom during fall turnover.

What does sound look like?

Dr. Michael Reichert and OSU Biology students are turning gray treefrog calls into visual data, and helping students everywhere do the same. Through the free SoundLab web app, users can record sounds, explore spectrograms and discover the science behind what they hear.
