“I know it’s hard to believe, but you will get through it… you are stronger than you realize”

Roberta Lombardi was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer stage 1A, the type that tends to grow and spread faster than others, which required a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and other related treatments.

She realized the financial burden that breast cancer patients like her had to deal with: treatment costs, wigs, transportation, mastectomy bras, head coverings…

To help and give back to her supportive community, Roberta formed Infinite Strength and raised $50,000 to help breast cancer patients afford basic extras.

Today's survivor story features Nikia!

🌷💞💐

“At 16 years old, there were many reasons I was not ready for a double mastectomy, but chief among them was prom.”

Nikia Hammonds-Blackely was a sophomore in high school when she found out that she had breast cancer. Everything about her diagnosis was beyond her comprehension.

As a 16 year old girl who was so excited for prom, Nikia was terrified of the fact that she would have to have a double mastectomy. She felt really insecure and lost lots of her confidence.

Nikia is now in a PhD program with a passion to help others. Through her Know Your Girls organization, she wanted to raise breast cancer awareness, especially in young girls and women.

Today's featured survivor story is Cara!
🌷🎀💓
“I hope more women [with breast cancer] can hear and share more diverse experiences to know they are not alone”
Cara’s mother passed away from breast cancer at age 42. Because of her Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, Cara knew her risk of breast cancer was higher.
Frequent screenings allow Cara to catch her breast cancer early at age 25.
Understanding that every breast cancer survivor has their own unique stories, she co-founded Young Adult Cancer Connection so patients can share their diverse experiences and know that they are not alone.
