The history of the Knolens Chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society begins in December 1949 with the founding of the Knolens Women's Senior Honor Society named for Mrs. Knoles, an outstanding woman in her own right, was the wife of Tully Knoles, president and chancellor of the University. Since then, the Knolens Chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society has established itself as an integral

part of University of the Pacific. From the beginning, the Knolens Women's Senior Honor Society was dedicated to the principles of "scholarship, leadership, and service," just as the first national organization honoring senior college women was Mortar Board Women's Senior Honor Society founded in 1918. In 1967, the Knolens Women's Senior Honor Society petitioned Mortar Board for chapter membership and subsequently became a fully recognized chapter of Mortar Board, thus taking the name Knolens Chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society.
