What happens when you bring together the brightest minds in nursing, social welfare, medicine, health professions, public health and dentistry? You get the future of healthcare.

We loved having President Andrea Goldsmith and Dr. William Wertheim, Executive Vice President of Stony Brook Medicine, join us last week to witness the incredible projects and research our teams are working on. From our state-of-the-art Simulation Centers—where students are mastering complex clinical scenarios—to the “Healthy Libraries Program” reaching families in our own backyard, our students and faculty are making waves.

A snapshot of the incredible research on display:
🤖 Tech & AI: Integrating ChatGPT/Claude into nursing education and using AI cloning for palliative support.
🌍 Global Impact: Analyzing cleft lip and palate surgical outcomes across the globe.
🤝 Community Care: Co-designing tools for neurodiverse driving skills and providing vital health services at local libraries.
🦷 Advanced Dentistry: Advancing patient outcomes through optical scanning and CAD/CAM technologies.

Happy Medical Laboratory Professionals Week! This year’s theme, "Lab Story: To Infinity and Beyond For Our Patients," is all about the journey of a sample and the experts behind the results.

Our Clinical Lab Science (CLS) students celebrated by bringing the lab to the community! From extracting DNA for wearable necklaces to a "Diagnose Mr. Potato Head" station, we used hands-on fun to explain the critical role of diagnostics in healthcare. 🩺

Highlights from the day:

🧬 DNA Extraction: Teaching the chemistry behind precipitation to create DNA necklaces.

🥔 Diagnose Mr. Potato Head: A playful take on the diagnostic process—matching symptoms to lab results!

🎨 Collaborative Art & Logic: A giant lab-themed coloring page and word searches to engage the next generation of scientists.

We’re proud of our students for highlighting that behind every test result is a dedicated professional ensuring patient safety.
