Our CEAS community showed up in full force for the Interdepartmental Soccer Tournament on April 24. Even Wolfie came to lend a paw on the pitch! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿบ

While the talent across the entire CEAS community is undeniable, the Black Team proved to be the ones to beat, securing their spot as this year's champions. Great game to everyone who participated!

We will see you all for the next one in the Fall! โšฝ๏ธ

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University offers a BE in mechanical engineering, as well as an accelerated BE/MS program, and graduate programs leading to the MS and PhD degrees. The ABET-accredited undergraduate curriculum embodies the core engineering discipline, providing a strong technical foundation that often leads to a broad range of career opportunities in both engineering practice and scientific research. Graduate programs offer areas of concentration in mechanical design and manufacturing, energy technology, robotics, solid mechanics, and fluid mechanics and thermal sciences.

The faculty is active in cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary research, with funding from federal and state agencies such as the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and from private industry. Students are encouraged to work directly with the faculty through technical electives, research, and hands-on design projects.

"As you journey through life, remember you are strong, courageous, educated, and resilient. AMS and SBU are proud to have played a part in your journey and we recognize the amazing transformation from student to graduate. Never stop learning and teaching others. We have every confidence you will make a positive impact on this world. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said: 'Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.'"

As part of our growing strategic partnership with industry, weโ€™re excited to extend an invitation for professionals to become students through a specialized online graduate course of special interest to those working in aerospace, electronics, advanced computing, and science.

Register for this three-credit, graduate online course, entitled "ESE 512 Quantum Systems Engineering," which may be of interest to engineers and technical professionals, including physicists working in industry, offered in Fall 2026.

Offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and taught by Professor Thomas Robertazzi, this is a first graduate course on quantum in this timely area, emphasizing the mathematical and physical basis of quantum computing with secondary coverage of quantum communication and quantum sensing.

The course covers necessary linear algebra, qubits, entanglement, Bellโ€™s inequality, quantum gates, quantum circuits, superdense coding, and teleportation.

The course meets weekly online with a synchronous lecture at 6:30 pm EST on Mondays and is recorded for later viewing. You can direct any questions to the instructor, Professor Robertazzi, at 631-379-1449, any day before 7 pm. Registration questions should be directed to the Graduate Program Coordinator, Ashley Cimato, at [email protected].
