Engineering World Health Chapter in Stony Brook University

Engineering World Health Chapter in Stony Brook University Engineering World Health (EWH) is a national organization that improves the quality of healthcare systems in developing nations.

The Stony Brook University EWH chapter was launched in Spring of 2009. Engineering World Health (EWH) is a national organization that harnesses the resources of collegiate engineering programs for the improvement of healthcare systems in developing nations. Every two to three years, USA and UK upgrade medical equipments in healthcare facilities. Organizations affiliated with EWH, such as GE, BD, D

uke global health, WHO, Abott, etc, collect these equipments and repair them and create testers, which detect whether medical equipments are optimally functioning. EWH chapters, such as SBU Chapter hosts events during which members help create testers. Since the protocols for creating testers are written for high school students, EWH members and those who attend the meetings do not have to be engineers nor do they need to have background knowledge of engineering. The kits/testers we create are packaged with the refurbished medical equipments and distributed to developing countries. Currently EWH has successfully established programs in Ghana, Honduras, Rwanda, and Cambodia. We want to raise awareness about inequities in global health & inspire EWH members to apply their technical skills and more so their creativity to work for solutions. Our objective is to raise awareness about inequities in global health & inspire EWH members to apply their technical skills & creativity to work for solutions. As a community, we will give back to the world, to SBU, & improve the engineering & biological science experience here at SBU.
