The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics (SCGP) is honored to welcome Abel Prize laureate Avi Wigderson from the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, for a special three-part series as part of the Della Pietra Lecture Series, “The Theory of Computation.”

Across three independent talks, Wigderson will explore the surprising beauty and wide-reaching impact of computation — from the role of randomness in our universe, to the fundamental question “What is computation?,” and the profound new insights emerging from the theory of proofs.

The series includes a public lecture on November 12, a special talk for high school and undergraduate students on November 13, as well as a technical lecture for faculty and advanced graduate students held later that day.

SCGP is pleased to announce the workshop Modern Musings on Monopoles, to be held from October 20–24, 2025.

This workshop is organized by Chris Kottke from Reed College, Nuno M. Romão from IHES, and Yan Soibelman from Kansas State University. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the introduction of magnetic monopoles by ’t Hooft and Polyakov.

We invite researchers and scholars to join us for this significant gathering to explore and discuss the latest developments in this vibrant area of study.
