Accelerate Long Island is a unique collaboration among Long Island's world class research institutions and its business community to commercialize research and create an entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Accelerate Long Island is organizing this event so researchers at Long Island's institutions can network with high tech start-up companies and each other. Girl power! On this day in 1809, Mary Dixon Kies became the first woman to receive a U.S. patent. Kies invented a process for weaving straw with silk or thread, a technique that helped with the production of bonnets.
