Every career starts somewhere. For five College of Business alumni, it started at Stony Brook.

Tushar Amin of Kaiju Worldwide, Shahnilla Jamal of JPMorganChase, Jawad Khalfan, MBA of SecureTech Systems, Deepti Sharma of Gundi Partners LLC and Christina Walsh of Wilshire returned to campus for Homecoming to share the turning points, setbacks and decisions that shaped their paths to leadership.

Attendees came with sharp questions, the panelists answered with honest advice and the conversations carried well into the reception that followed.

Each of these inspiring leaders carved time out of demanding schedules to come back, speak openly about their own journeys and invest in the people sitting where they once sat. That kind of generosity is what makes the Seawolf community what it is.

To Tushar, Shahnilla, Jawad, Deepti and Christina, thank you for coming back to campus and for reminding everyone in the room what is possible.

Thank you also to Neil Butterklee, President of the Stony Brook University Alumni Association and CoB alum for serving as our MC for the event and for his longtime support of the college.

Thank you to Brian Rodriguez of PwC for joining accounting students at the Harriman Career Studio for the latest Alumni Studio Career Chat.

Brian shared his career journey, from his time as a student to his role at PwC, along with the lessons he learned along the way. Students gained valuable insight into building a career in public accounting and the paths open to them in the field.

Alumni Studio Career Chats, presented by the College of Business and the Stony Brook University Career Center, connect students with alumni and industry professionals who share how they built their careers. More conversations are coming this semester!

The 2026 Dean’s Challenge brought the Stony Brook community together for a memorable afternoon of Seawolves pride.

The College of Business teamed up with the Stony Brook University College of Arts and Sciences, the Stony Brook School of Health Professions, and the Stony Brook University School of Professional Development to host the tailgate, bringing great food, friendly competition, and plenty of school spirit to game day. Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and neighbors gathered, reconnected, and cheered side by side.

The Business, Communication & Journalism Job & Internship Fair brought students face to face with employers across various industries last Friday. Students at every stage had the chance to learn about career paths, ask questions directly, and make an impression with recruiters hiring for internships and full-time roles.

Many came ready with polished resumes, sharpened pitches, and thoughtful questions, and left with new connections and next steps.

Earlier that morning, MBA and MS students got a head start at the pre-fair networking event at The Shore Club, meeting recruiters in a smaller setting before the main fair began.

Thank you to the employers who took the time to meet with students, and to the Stony Brook University Career Center, Stony Brook Career Center, for making the day possible!

From industry insight to CPA exam prep, last week’s inaugural Accounting Kickoff Event gave students a full picture of what it takes to navigate today’s accounting recruitment environment.

Christie L. Comunale, Ph.D., CPA and Keval Amin opened the afternoon, setting the tone for a lineup that brought together alumni, current students, and industry partners. College of Business alumni Kiegh G. Dudley, MBA and Steven Miata, CPA, MS offered a candid look at how the profession is evolving and what employers are looking for in candidates. A current student and alumni panel featuring Bernick Cyriaque, Thanvika Palukuri, Joanna Pettit, CPA, Ting Zheng, and Lloyd Ippolito, CPA, MBA, CTC followed with firsthand advice on navigating recruitment. Michael Gaudio and Kimberly Dixon of the Stony Brook University Career Center added practical guidance on timelines, résumés, interviews, and networking, and Jeffrey Sampson, MSEd of Becker Accounting and Su Zhou, CPA, EA of UWorld Accounting spoke to CPA exam planning and preparation.

The event closed with roundtables where students connected directly with accounting industry partners, the Career Center, alumni and graduate students, Beta Alpha Psi and NABA, accounting faculty, and CPA exam prep providers Becker and UWorld — covering everything from internships and leadership programs to CPA exam planning and academic support.

Students left with a clearer picture of the current accounting landscape, practical recruitment advice, and new connections across the Stony Brook accounting community.

This event is part of a series of events preparing students for the competitive accounting recruitment landscape. Next up is the Accounting Job and Internship Fair on September 16!

Last Friday, the Seawolves Block Party brought the energy to the Academic Mall.

Our Financial Literacy trivia took center stage at the College of Business table, giving students a fun way to put their money knowledge to the test. From budgeting and credit basics to saving, investing, and smart money habits, students answered three questions correctly for a shot at spinning the prize wheel and bringing some College of Business merch home.

Big crowds, bigger energy, and a great way to kick off the fall semester!

Stony Brook University’s URECA Celebration of Undergraduate Research & Creativity brought the campus research community together for one of the year’s most anticipated events — and College of Business students were right in the middle of it.

The URECA Celebration is a university-wide symposium showcasing the breadth and depth of undergraduate research happening across SBU. Students present faculty-mentored projects to peers, faculty, and visitors from across the university — a remarkable demonstration of what Stony Brook undergraduates are capable of when given the space, support, and mentorship to pursue their ideas.

The College of Business was proud to honor our participating students with a reception in Harriman Hall, bringing together CoB students, faculty, and staff to celebrate their contributions to this university-wide tradition. Seeing our students present their research alongside peers from every corner of campus is a reflection of everything we value — curiosity, rigor, and the willingness to do the work.

Today, we proudly gathered to recognize the remarkable achievements of our undergraduate and graduate students at the Spring 2026 College of Business Awards Ceremony. It was an afternoon of pride and inspiration, honoring students completing their degrees between Fall 2025 and Fall 2026 — students who’ve excelled in academics, leadership, research, resilience, service and community impact.

From demonstrating resilience in the face of challenge, to driving institutional change, pursuing groundbreaking research, and serving our communities — these Seawolves are already shaping the future of business.
