This April our lovely chapter sister Victoria Avila (SP ‘25) had the opportunity to attend this year’s Lambda Hill Days as a part of Cohort X. She was able to speak with representatives alongside sisters and advocate for important political issues! 🩶🏛️
“During my time on the Hill, I was able to meet with representatives for Chris Murphy, Richard Blumenthal, and Jim Hymes, who are all congresspeople for the state of Connecticut. In my meetings, I urged them to put affordable healthcare at the top of their list of concerns. My research on this topic focused mainly on women of color, and how a lack of affordable healthcare can disproportionately impact that demographic.
Knowing I had 30+ other sisters in this cohort from across the nation backing me up helped me feel more confident in my research and presentation. Other sisters touched on issues such as immigration, education, and environmental reform.
I am incredibly thankful that LTA has given me the opportunity to use my voice as a citizen to make a real impact. It reminded me the importance of staying involved and informed, especially in today’s political climate. Overall it has been a very fulfilling experience that will stick with me for years to come. I look forward to reapplying next year!”
We are so proud of our chapter sister for her work in D.C.! 🌴🌙
